The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup worn internally collecting menstrual fluid rather than absorbing. It is not a disposable product, so you only need to buy one. A healthy and environmentally sound alternative to tampons.
The Mooncup allows the mucus membranes of the vaginal wall to continue their essential cleansing and protective functions. The Mooncup does not absorb your body's natural defence mechanisms nor will it deposit fibres in your vaginal wall.
The Mooncup will hold around 30 ml of fluid (approximately one third of the average total produced each period). A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls allowing menstrual fluid to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour.
The Mooncup is the world's first menstrual cup to be manufactured from medical grade silicone. Silicone is derived from silica, found in sandstone quartz, one of the most abundant resources on our planet. The Mooncup contains no bleaches, deodorizers or absorbancy gels. It has not been associated with toxic shock syndrome.
Correctly inserted, the Mooncup is so comfortable you can forget it exists, but, it may take a little practice at first. Once you have perfected it, you will be amazed at how simple it is to use. You will need to empty, rinse or wipe and reinsert your Mooncup every four to eight hours depending on your flow. The process is no more messy than usual tampons and is not uncomfortable.
The Mooncup can be used safely overnight and is great for all sports, swimming and travelling.
With proper care your Mooncup will last for several years. Cleaned between periods with sterilizing fluid or by boiling for five minutes in an open pan of water. A full instruction leaflet is enclosed.
Your Mooncup will not cause irritation and is suitable for women with sensitive skin, thrush, eczema or allergy.
